Sheriff Brent Fischer is a life long
resident of Adams County and is in his 20th year at the
Adams County Sheriff’s Office. He attended Quincy Notre Dame
High School (Class of 85) and received a Bachelor of Science
Degree from Eastern Illinois University in December of 1990.
Brent is married to his Wife Julie and they have a daughter, who is 7.

Sheriff Fischer started his career with the Adams County
Sheriff’s Office in 1991 as a Court Security Officer. He was
hired as a Deputy Sheriff
in 1994 and attended the Police Training Institute at the
University of Illinois, Champaign Illinois.
Sheriff Fischer was first elected to Sheriff November 3, 1998.
Since then Brent has been re-elected in 2002, 2006 and recently
re-elected to his fourth term in November of 2010.
Since Sheriff Fischer first being elected in 1998 he has strived
to bring a high level of Law Enforcement service to the citizens
of Adams County. Brent has worked hard to bring the best
training and equipment to the patrol deputies that allow
efficient and effective response. We have taken a strong stand
in our war against drugs in partnering with our follow law
enforcement agencies. We have improved our service to victims of
crime through our investigative unit. We have worked hard to
provide a safe environment in our schools in a partnership to
establish a School Resource Officer. The Sheriff has also taken
an aggressive approach in pursuing violent offenders in
partnering with the U. S. Marshals and dedicated a deputy to the
Great Lakes Task Force.
Sheriff Fischer has attended a number of different Executive
level training sessions. The following have been just a few to
mention: Illinois Sheriff’s Association New Sheriff’s Management
Sheriff’s Institute in 1998, National Sheriff’s Institute in
1999, and Management of a Small Law Enforcement Agency at the
Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville in
19999, Executive Management Program through the Center for
Public Safety at Northwestern University1999, Graduate of the
FBI National Academy (202nd Session) in 2000 and attended the
School of Police Staff and Command through the Center for Public
Safety, Northwestern University in 2008.
Sheriff Fischer has served on numerous boards and in some
leadership positions. Brent serves as Policy Board Chairman for
the West Central Task Force. He served as Co-Chair for the
Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS) for 8 years.
Sheriff Fischer served as President of the Illinois Sheriff’s
Association in 2010 and Brent is currently serving as Chairman
of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board for
two years.
