Q: Is the Adams County Ambulance Service a Medicare Service Provider?

A: The Adams County Ambulance Service provides service is Medicare recipients under Medicare Part B.  We accept assignment which means Medicare pays fees for services based on scheduled rate.  The patient may be presented with a bill after Medicare pays its share, typically supplemental insurance will pay any remaining fees after Medicare has submitted payment.

Q: What if I choose a service that is not covered by Medicare?

A: In the event a patient chooses a service that is not covered by Medicare, then the patient will be responsible for payment of fees.  An example would include an inter facility transport which is deemed “Not Medically Necessary” by the patient’s physician.  If services are available at a hospital where the patient is getting care, then Medicare may not pay.  We will not require payment in advance from Medicare patients, but we will require them, the next of kin, or power of attorney to sign an Advance Beneficiary Notice.  We work diligently to accommodate those who call upon our service.

Q:  When do I call 9-1-1 for an ambulance?

A:  You should call 9-1-1 in the event someone becomes suddenly ill or injured.  If you are not sure you should call 9-1-1, we suggest you go ahead and call.  Better safe than sorry.

Q:  How many paramedic ambulances are there?

A:  Adams County maintains a fleet of five paramedic ambulances on duty twenty-four hours a day.  In addition we have an on call unit and three additional ambulances, not staffed, for back up purposes.  The  ambulance service maintains a  Mass Casualty Response Unit trailer, and Support Services unit, and a Paramedic Alternate Response Unit to provide optimum service to our community.

Q:  How do I contact the Ambulance?

A:  For emergencies, call 9-1-1.  Our business office can be contacted Monday through Friday 8:30 – 4:30 at 217-277-2001.  This number can be called to ask questions about billing, operations, public education, etc.   Our office is located at 507 Vermont Street.  The office can be accessed from the west (5th street) entrance.

Q: Where are the ambulances stationed?

A:  Two ambulances serve southwest Adams County, including Quincy; they are stationed at 16th and Vermont in Quincy.  The ambulance stationed at the Liberty Fire Station serves southeast Adams County, northeast Adams County is served by the unit stationed in Camp Point while Mendon is home to the ambulance and crew that serves northwest Adams County.  In the event the ambulance in your area is already assigned to an emergency the next closest ambulance will be dispatched along with first responders.
