Congratulations on your decision to run for public office and thus get involved in local government.  Elected officials work closely with the public and other elected/appointed officials in dealing with, and overcoming, the many challenges facing local governments today.  Through teamwork and good communication we are providing services to the community at an affordable cost.  As those individuals already in office know, the demands placed on elected officials are growing, and therefore a wide variety of skills, talents and expertise is needed to continue meeting the needs of the community at efficiently.  Those individuals, like yourself, wishing to get involved can be commended.  Good luck!

KEY DATES:   

September 6, 2011  First day to circulate petitions for the Nov. 28 – Dec. 5, 2011 filing period. 
 Nov. 28 – Dec. 5, 2011 Filing period for established party candidates and independents for local offices.  Filing of documents is at the County Clerk’s Office, 507 Vermont St., Quincy, IL.

Statement of Candidacy – Required for all candidates.  Candidates representing an established political party (click here to download), as well as independents (click here to download).  The candidate’s name should appear in the same form on the Statement of Candidacy as the name appears on the petition sheets.  NOTE:  The name of the candidate will appear on the ballot as it appears on the 1st page of the petitions.

 Loyalty Oath – Optional for all offices (click here to download).

Code of Fair Campaign Practices – Optional for all offices (click here to download).  If you plan to file this statement, DO NOT bind this document with your petition packet.  Please submit it separately at the County Clerk’s Office when you file your paperwork.

Statement of Economic Interests – Required for all candidates except Precinct Committeeman (click here to download). 

SIGNATURE REQUIREMENTS:

Established Political Party (County Offices) – Republican Candidates – a minimum of 110 primary electors of his/her party of the primary electors in Adams County.  Democratic Candidates – a minimum of 65 primary electors of his/her party of the primary electors in Adams County.

 Established Political Party (County Board) – A minimum of 25 primary electors of his/her party of the primary electors of his/her district.

Independent Candidates – Contact the County Clerk’s Office at 277-2150 for signature requirements.

Precinct Committeeman – A minimum of ten (10) primary electors of his/her party in his/her precinct.
