ELECTION INFORMATION

FOR THE ELECTION JUDGES

 

Judges of elections are responsible for the administration of election procedures in the polling place on Election Day. They are in the position of ensuring that he election process is administered fairly and in accordance with the law.

 

 

Who chooses Election Judges?

 Election Judges are chosen by the Party Chairperson. In precincts under the jurisdiction of the County Clerk, the party which cast the highest average number of votes at the most recent three gubernatorial elections in the precinct shall be represented by three election judges; the party which casts the second highest number of votes at the most recent three gubernatorial elections in the precinct shall be represented by two election judges. 

 

Qualifications necessary to be an Election Judge

-Be a citizen of the United States                      

-Be of good repute and character

-Be able to speak, read, and write the English Language

-Not be a candidate for any office in the election and not be an elected precinct committeemen

-Be a registered voter of Adams County

-Declare party preference

 

Responsibilities of an Election Judge

-Open and close polls

-Be responsible for all election materials

-Ensure that only qualified voters are permitted to vote and that each qualified voter is permitted to vote once and only once

-Give instructions if requested by a voter

-Maintain order in the polling place

-Reconcile the paperwork after polls close

 

What training is required?

We conduct Election Judge training sessions before every election. In addition, a powerpoint training packet is available.
