  GENEALOGY SEARCHES

 

WHAT RECORDS ARE AVAILABLE FOR GENEALOGY?

  • Birth records 75 years or older.

  • Death records 20 years or older.

  • Marriage records 50 years or older.

 

WHAT IS REQUIRED BEFORE YOU CAN OBTAIN A COPY OF A BIRTH CERTIFICATE?

  • A Government issued picture ID (Drivers License, State ID Card).   If your request is by mail, send a copy of your ID or fax it to our office at (217) 277-2155.

  • A non-refundable search fee of $4.00 for the first record/name for a five year search.  Each additional year searched is $1.00.

  • A completed application for search of record.

HOW CAN YOU OBTAIN A GENEALOGICAL COPY OF A VITAL RECORD?

 

You may obtain a certified copy of a birth or death certificate (PHOTO COPIES ARE NOT AVAILABLE) either in person or by requesting it by mail.  You may also obtain a certified copy of a marriage certificate, or you may obtain a photo copy of the front of a marriage certificate (the front does not include historical information).

 

Stop by our office at 507 Vermont Street Monday thru Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to obtain a certified copy.  Indexes are available in our office for research purposes.  If you perform the research, the search fees are waived and you pay only the cost of the record.

WHAT IS THE FEE FOR THE RECORDS?

If found, a certified birth record is $10.00 for the first copy and $7.00 for each additional copy obtained at the same time.

 

If found, a certified death record is $12.00 for the first copy and $9.00 for each additional copy obtained at the same time.

 

If found, a photo copy of the front of the marriage certificate will be supplied at no additional cost.  A certified marriage record is $10.00 for the first copy and $7.00 for each additional copy obtained at the same time.  Additional photo copies of the front of a marriage certificate can be obtained for$1.00/ea.
