The
Adams County rural addressing project began in 1995 in anticipation
of an Enhanced 911 system. The
project was a cooperative effort of the County of Adams, the City of
Quincy, each rural village, 911 emergency services and the United
States Postal Service.
There
are over 33,545 addresses within Adams County.
Some of these addresses were correct street style addresses.
An additional 12,255 Addresses that were a rural route box
number or subdivision lot number were converted to a street style
address. Over 1/3 of
the addresses in Adams County had to be changed.
Explanation of Addressing
Adams
County residents are required to have their 911 addresses in order
to acquire new phone service, power and other utilities. It is also
required to have your address posted outside your home.

In
order to make it easier to find the new addresses, the Adams County
GIS created a book of every new address in the County that is
outside the City of Quincy. This
book is 343 pages and includes an index of addresses.
Due to privacy laws, names are not included in this book.
Copies of this book are available at the Adams County Highway
Department for $20.
During the address conversion process, Adams County
signed a confidentiality agreement with the United States Post
Office. As a part of
this agreement, Adams County is not allowed to release the names or
“old” addresses of any resident.
