Tips to Avoid Septic System Problems

Tips on Maintaining a Septic System

Considering building a new home in the county?

Take a minute and review the following checklist:

ü      By ordinance, a minimum lot size of 20,000 square feet will be needed.

ü      A permit to construct a private sewage disposal system is required.

ü      Site address, type of water supply, number of bedrooms, and whether a garbage   disposal will be used is some of the information required for the permit.

ü      In most cases, soil percolation tests will need to be conducted.

ü      In most cases, a licensed installer will be needed to construct a private sewage disposal system.

ü      Homes with walkout basements may pose special construction issues when installing a system.  Consult a contractor or the health department before you begin.

ü      Before any private sewage disposal system is covered, a health department representative will need to inspect the system.
