HIV / AIDS Program
The HIV/AIDS
program in Adams County provides free and confidential services to
residents of Adams County and surrounding areas. The program
consists of two grant-funded areas: Testing/Prevention/Education and
Case Management.
HIV Testing, Prevention &
Education
HIV testing is
fast and easy. The test is done in a private room and takes about
30 minutes. At your test, we discuss your risks of becoming
infected with HIV and we work with you to come up with your own HIV
prevention plan. After the test we make another appointment for you
to come back and receive your results, usually a week after the test
is taken.
There are no
needles used for testing. We use a small cotton pad ( the
Orasure test kit) placed between your check and gum for
approximately 3 minutes. This test is painless and accurate. There
are no needles used and no blood drawn.
At our testing
site we also will help people notify their sex or needle sharing
partners if needed. This is done only with the client’s
permission.
