Background
In Illinois, Probation and Court Services are part of the judicial
branch of government. Department
personnel are appointed by and accountable to the Chief Judge of the
Circuit. County Boards
exercise budget authority. The
Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts - Probation Division
provides a salary subsidy to counties for all qualified personnel.
In return, departments must comply with operational standards
and monitoring requirements established by the Probation Division.
The oversight of the Division extends to all aspects of the
organization, administration, and operation of Illinois Probation
and Court Services Departments.
The Adams County Court Services Department includes the Probation
Department and the Juvenile Detention Center. The Probation
Department has 20 total positions (17 officer and administrative
positions, and 3 secretaries)
.
The Probation Department and the Detention Center are administered by
the Director of Court Services. The Superintendent of the Detention
Center and the Chief Probation Officer are responsible for the day
to day operation of each agency.
