Property Tax Information

Property owners in Illinois pay property taxes which fund various levels of government.  The process of assessing the value of property, determining exemptions, calculating tax bills, and collecting the funds involves several departments.

Property tax is a local tax assessed by the County (or township).  Revenues from property tax are collected and spent at the local level for public safety, schools, roads, sewers, parks, libraries, and other essential services.

Adams County Township Assessors assess the value of each parcel.  This link provides contact information for each assessor in Adams county.

Adams County Supervisor of Assessments is responsible for overseeing the assessment process and determining equalization factors.

Adams County Board of Review - Complaints on assessments must be filed in writing with the Board of Review in the county in which the property is located.

Adams County Clerk calculates and extends the tax rates on all real estate in the county using levies filed by schools, municipalities, library and park districts.

Adams County Treasurer is responsible for preparing property tax bills and for the collection and distribution of property taxes.  Each year, during October, the Treasurer and the County Clerk conduct a sale at which delinquent taxes on various properties in the County are sold by auction.
