SHERIFF
BRENT A. FISCHER
Sheriff
Brent Fischer was born on March 9, 1967 and was raised in Quincy,
Adams County, Illinois. He attended Quincy Notre Dame High School
and graduated in 1985. Sheriff Fischer received an athletic
scholarship to attend Eastern Illinois University. Brent was
successful in his athletic career in that he was a 3 year letterman
in football at Eastern Illinois University and started his last 2
years. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor
of Science degree in December, 1990.

In
December, 1991, Sheriff Fischer started his employment with
the Adams County Sheriff’s Department as a Court Security
Officer. In June, 1994, he was promoted to deputy sheriff and
attended the Police Training Institute at the University of
Illinois, Champaign, Illinois.
In
1998, Brent ran for the office of Sheriff of Adams County and was
elected to the office on November 3, 1998. |

Upon
being elected, Sheriff Fischer was committed to bringing "pride
and integrity" to the Adams County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff Fischer was also committed to bringing the department to a
more professional level, part of which was to provide needed
training and equipment. Sheriff Fischer feels he has a great start
because he already has a good working relationship with all of the
area law enforcement agencies. He has also worked extremely hard at
applying for grants and other monies to improve equipment needs and
provide better and more up to date training.
Since
Sheriff Fischer has been in office, he has attended many different
training sessions to assist him in his administrative position some
of which are listed below.
In
February, 1999, Brent completed the National Sheriff’s Institute
in Longmont, Colorado and in April, 1999, he attended the management
of small law enforcement agencies at the Southern Police Institute
in Louisville, Kentucky. In October, 1999, Brent completed the
Executive Management Program through Northwestern University Traffic
Institute. In September 2000, Sheriff Fischer graduated from the
202nd session of the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
