DUTIES
OF
THE TREASURER’S OFFICE
The duties of
the Adams County Treasurer’s office are to receive and safely keep
the revenues and other public monies of the County, to invest any
surplus funds, to distribute the monies collected to the proper
recipients, and to pay the County’s bills as directed by the Adams
County Board.
The
Treasurer, as custodian of the County’s money, is further directed
to furnish monthly a financial statement to the Adams County Board.
The office must also store tax records and accounts and
provide the information to interested parties.
The
Treasurer also handles the investments for the County of Adams in
accordance with applicable Illinois Statutes regarding investments
of public funds. Investments
are made in Treasury Bills, Certificate of Deposits and other
interest bearing bank accounts.
It is the policy of the Adams County Treasurer to deposit
money for investment purposes in local banks throughout Adams
County.
The Treasurer is
also responsible for preparing property tax bills and for the
collection and distribution of property taxes.
Each year, during October, the Treasurer and the County Clerk
conduct a sale at which delinquent taxes on various properties in
the County are sold by auction.
The
County Treasurer employs a full-time staff consisting of the Deputy
Treasurer and three clerks. During
the collection and distribution of real estate taxes, additional
part time
staff is employed. |
